Matchplay SCHEDULE: The Tennis Director will have the schedules and rankings on the web site weekly at (www.knightstennis.com). TIME REQUESTS: The Tennis Director will try and honor time requests or "Early - 5:30-8:00" and "Later - 8:00-11:00", but they are NOT guaranteed. If you have class from 6:00-8:50 Wednesday nights, please do not sign up for Wednesdays as you may be scheduled at 8:00pm and you would have to reschedule every week. TENNIS BALLS: Each players is to bring an unopened can of balls to the match. One player (spin for it) will use their can for the match. The player who wins the match will keep the unopened can and the player that loses will keep the used balls. This rule is not enforced by the University, but please be courteous to other players and stick to it as much as possible. You may also agree with your opponent to your own terms. WARM UP: The warm up time is limited to 5 minutes past the start time of the match. If you would like more time, arrange for your opponent to arrive early and if there is an open court the Supervisor will put you on. SINGLES MATCH: Consists of a 8 game set, which will use advantage scoring. You must win by two games (i.e. 8-6, 9-7), or at 8-8 a tiebreak will be played. DOUBLES MATCH: Consists of an 8 game pro set, which will use advantage scoring. You must win by two games (i.e. 8-6, 9-7), or at 8-8 a tiebreak will be played. REPORT: At the conclusion of the match, the winner must report the score to the supervisor on the court. If you play a challenge match, you must email the results to the Tennis Director (adrienne@knightstennis.com). You may play as many challenge matches as you want. Rankings DISCLAIMER: The rankings are intended to be a fun and competitive tool to track your level of play and where you stack up with other players. The rankings will also determine your seed in the end of the semester Tournament. Please do not take the system too seriously as their are hitches to any ranking system (ATP, BCS, etc). Also, it is an Intramural league that if you are champion, you will win a T-Shirt. Thank you. SINGLES: If you lose a match, you will lose one point. If you beat someone whose points are higher than yours, you will move one point ahead of their ranking. For instance, Dave has 30 points and Bob has 20 points. If Bob beats Dave, than Bob will have 31 points and Dave will have 29 points. If Dave had less than 20 points, Bob would not gain any points. DOUBLES: Each doubles win will earn you 3 points; each loss is -1 point. So if you have 5 wins and 1 loss you will have 14 points. Doubles will be scheduled with different people each week. On the night of doubles, doubles teams might be manipulated. Sometimes players forfeit, cancel matches, or players want to play challenge matches. Challenge matches can be played in doubles or singles, just as long as you are registered in that respective division of play.
TEAMS:
Team rankings will be a combination of singles and doubles points from that
teams respective players. Teams will be assigned randomly. If there are player(s)
you wish to be on your team, please submit your request early in the semester.
It is not guaranteed that the change will occur. End of Semester Tournament SEEDING: Your tournament seed is based on your ranking from the final week of regular season matchplay. Generally, the 24 players will be placed in the "A Flight", players 25-48 will be placed in the "B Flight", and so on. This gives all player levels a chance to win the Intramural Championship. TOURNAMENT PLAY: You may be scheduled any of the days that IM Tennis is played on (M,W,R). If you can not make those times you may withdraw from the tournament or attempt to reschedule. If you attempt to reschedule your Wednesday match and do not have time to play before your next round match on Thursday, you will be defaulted from the draw. You may play your matches before the scheduled time as the Tennis Director will keep the online draws update daily during tournament week. Forfeit / Rescheduling ARRIVE: You must arrive and check in to play with the supervisor no later than 5 minutes at a scheduled match, or it will result in a forfeit. RESCHEDULE: If you cannot make a match when you are already scheduled, you must contact you opponent to reschedule or cancel at least 24 hours before match time. You must also send the Tennis Director an email explaining why. If no email is received, both players will lose points off their rankings. 2 rescheduled matches = 1 forfeit. Rescheduling is not encouraged. (If you are cancelled on, you are welcome to still go to the courts and the Supervisor will try and arrange you a match at you designated match time). FORFEITS: If you do not show up for a scheduled match & your opponent does not know, you will receive a forfeit. You will not be scheduled again until you contact the Tennis Director explaining why you did not show. Emails should include both names of players, reason for forfeit, and date of forfeit. After your email is processed, you will be scheduled to play again the following week. DOUBLE JEOPARDY: If you obtain 2 forfeits during the season, you will be removed from the league – No Exceptions.
